seachem safe versus prime

I have tried using the search engine but nothing popped up. Presently I am using Seachem Prime which I have no problem with. Seachem safe apparently does the same thing I know it cannot be stored premixed with water. Question is what is the general consensus on Seachem Safe.

Everyone on this forum will say Prime is awesome, mostly because it is. Not sure about the Seachem, but someone has tried it I'm sure.

Here is what Seachem says about Safe™.

Product Description
Safe™ is the complete and concentrated dry conditioner for both fresh and salt water. Safe™ removes chlorine, chloramine and ammonia. Safe™ converts ammonia into a safe, non-toxic form that is readily removed by the tank’s biofilter. Safe™ may be used during tank cycling to alleviate ammonia/nitrite toxicity. Safe™ detoxifies nitrite and nitrate, allowing the biofilter to more efficiently remove them. Safe™ is non-acidic and will not impact pH. Safe™ will not overactivate skimmers. Use at start-up and whenever adding or replacing water.
Sizes: 10 g, 50 g, 250 g, 1 kg, 4 kg



Why It's Different

Safe™ is the dry version of Prime® and shares all of it’s advantages; however, Safe™ is even more concentrated than Prime®.
 
Safe is the same as Prime except safe is powder and prime is a liquid like Star_Rider said. Also, safe can be bought in huge buckets while prime can't.
You can get safe in small quantities too.
 
I premix Safe into Prime and have not had issues. My water has a ton of chloramine in it. I make it up 500 mL at a time. One of the LFS near me does the same thing, only mixes up 4L bottles at a time. When I contacted Seachem to ask about the stability of reconstituted Safe they would not recommend doing it, saying they hadn't studied the stability of it. I've been using Safe in this manner for about a year now without issue. It stinks just like Prime does when reconstituted.
 
I just got a jar from amazon. How much should I add to 10 gallons of water for water change? Or should I add it directly to the tank. (55 gallon planted)

You definitely want to mix it in water before adding to the tank, because it doesn't dissolve all that quickly. I'd think you'd use 1/8 or 1/4 teaspoon, but if you're only changing 10 gallons, you probably could use less.
