O.K., I was at the LFS today and saw seahorses, uh-oh lol. So im planning to pick up 2 of them tomorrow and including them in my 30 gallon (will be turning into a species only tank). I do know that that are very hard to take care of and I am willing to dedicate my time to make sure these fish have an appropiate home. I am also curious to know what they eat. Please let me know if this is ok, as i am doing tons of research. If anyone has kept seahorses and had succes please let me know.
comments, concerns, etc- let me know!

thanks,
Oddball

What corals do you have in your tank now? If you have fuzzy/hair mushrooms or torch coral...they don't mix. Grins is right, the flow needs to be really low - which is another consideration for what the impact is to what you already have. If they are CB or Tank Raised then the seahorses should be used to frozen foods. Brine shrimp and mysis are good. They love copepods and will hunt for them. They do need places to hold on to - heavy, fast current is not good. So what is your current like without any powerheads?

Sorry, do you know the type. Hippocampus kuda? or erectus? Different ones are more/less difficult. Let us know.

I am not completly sure about the species, but I do know they were labeled as black seahorses (i know, i know that dosent really help lol).

Reguarding the flow... Right now the flow is comming from my filter, wich is very low, and a powerhead i have aiming behind my rock wall (very low), but I can lower that even more.

So far the only corals are an open brain, xiena, a blue mushroom, and an atlantic condy anenome ( probably getting rid of it tommorow if that is a concern)

I think you need to check this out. http://www.reefvideos.com/ there is a vide in the middle...think the mans name is Marte and it's talking about his rocordea tank. The piece I would be concerned about is the "environment" that you are creating for the seahorse. They don't need a big tank...but they need branches, or plants to hold on to, etc. Believe me I know the lure they have, but it isn't quite right if you don't have the full picture for them. I am not the expert...I have only made the mistake of thinking they would do well in my tank based on the LFS telling me that, and then when I checked on line......one thing after another wasn't condusive for the seahorses. Please also check out http://seahorse.org/ they have lots of helpful information. You need to weigh what you are offering the sh's for an environment compared to what they need. Hopefully someone with more seahorse experience can help....I am just trying to pass on to you what I have learned. They are incredible creatures.

If I were setting up a seahorse tank I'd go for a 20g tall or a 40g breeder. Something tall versus long. I'd have sea fans or something for them to hold onto and I'd also put pipefish in there. But I'd not have anemones or LPS.
