Second big fish kill

I'm sorry to hear about your fish. :(

Your experience reinforces how important it is to check the "fine print" on products used for a tank (and even for our own household use!) Unfortunately, there are so many products out there now that have antibacterial treatments (like Microban) that one has to be especially careful.

Sorry to hear about your losses :( I was using the exact same kind of sponge on my tanks for the last 6 months but stopped after reading various posts similar to this one even though I didn't have any fish pass away. I did some research and called some companies to find a sponge that was safe to use.

Chin up.

Thanks for the support and suggestions. FYI half the fish seem to have survived intact, including 2 angelfish, 5 clown loaches and half the cardinal tetras. Three denison barbs and a dozen penguin tetras bought the farm. No long term ill effects that I can see except the fish are not eating much, probably still in mourning from all the dead bodies. At least I know what it is now, for a while there I was considering giving up and getting plastic fish!!!!!!!

Well Natakutseng, I guess I'd rather be ignorant than end up with sick or dead fish! I too do alot of research but sometimes you just can't get the answers you need so......better to be safe (and maybe spend a little more) than be sorry!
Especially when it comes to cleaning products, I'll err on the side of caution!
