how long will it generally take to sink? I'm not into attaching slates to wood due to the inflexiblity to be able to invert it around and so on.

It was sunk when harvested, although since it's been out of water for a short period, it might need to be rehydrated
No it is all tank ready. All the driftwood is harvested underwater so its been cured for many years.
each piece of driftwood goes through a 2 part process before being offered for sale.
the 1st step is pressure washing to remove dirt & loose surface material. the 2nd step
is highpressure steam for sterilization.
as for tannins potentialy being released when submerged, that is not an issue with the wood
we offer. all the wood has been submerged for many years until being harvested & is vitualy tannin free
