Okay starting a new thread because I didn't want to hijack the other betta thread I'm considering a betta for my 10G. How do you know if the fish is healthy since they can't even move in those cups? What do you look for?
Bright, clear color, active and responsive. I shy away from very light, dim colored ones, or any that seem to have cloudy eyes or spots on their scales.
(Not an expert though, I'm sure other people will have better advice <3)
Kerrie, that is good advice That's exactly what I look for: good activity, vibrant color, no visible signs of illness or injury.
Also, another way is to ask the store people to put it in some clear water for you to get a better look. It'll only take them a minute to change out a handful of cups.
So you want one that will move around when you pick up the cup and look at it? I was looking at them at Wal Mart last night, don't worry, I would never get one from there but just looking and they just were not moving. Yeah what's with the blue water?
yeah, all the bettas I've bought were feisty. They were swimming around in the little cup, ready to challenge me Very cute.
The blue water is probably a tap water conditioner and a stress reducer. The blue color I think reduces visibility so they're less likely to be bothered by their neighbors and the store customers.
