Seting up a sump

Semper Fi!!! :headbang2:

A baffle is used to power the return? And if i used gavity to feed the sump with a 3/4'' tube and the return was 1/2'' wouldnt that make a nasty mess?

Please be more specfic, Anyone got AIM? i would love to chat like that i have more detailed questions than i should be posting...

A baffle is the separators you see in the sumps. They act as flood gates because the water level will always be the same between two baffles in the sump.

On your intake to your sump you put a ball valve. This allows you to make changes in how much water is going to your sump so you can match it on your return pump to create an even flow through the system.

I know I can use a pump to get my water from the sump back to the aquarium but do I need a vertical drop to get the water from my tank to the sump? The guy at the pet store (who was obvilously trying to rip me off and told me I couldn't use a glass aquarium to keep saltwater fish and to spend an extra $600 an an acrylic tank) said I needed to get the water from the top of the tank to drop into the slum. Is this canceled out with powerheads? But I still don't know how I'd get the water from the aquarium to my wet/dry overflow box. Sorry to invade your thread with a question, I'm new and also a little crazy (or just really confused)

loser!

To get the water from the tank to the sump its just being siphoned from a inner box, thought a u-tube, to an outer box, then gravity takes it down some pvc pipes.

Not sure if that helps, as you know... im crazy, and i dont know how well "new ands also a little crazy (or just really confused) people communicate.

inner box = ?? u-tube = self explanatory. outer box = wet/dry overflow box? asggdakl. I hope you figured it out man, this is like problem solving.

do a google search for overflow box and you'll see what he's talking about.

Do you need to have an overflow box in your tank to have the slum working correctly?
Is there anyway to get around building an overflow or getting one to be hung in your tank like the CPR overflow boxes?
That might be a really stupid question but I really thought you could have a setup where water was just being drawn from the tank to the slum, do the whole process of the wet/dry filter then be pumped back into my tank. I also am invested in a 100gl protein skimmer and a few power heads.

I see, I would have to drill if I didn't want anything like that right?
I guess the CPR box it is...

If there is a power-outage with out a inner box then you will have a problem, but i guess u dont need an outbox. You could connect it directly to a pipe to you sump..

Not sure if that helps :wall: im also new to this, yet Riverserver explained it all to to me.
