So I'm setting up a 5.5 gallon tank. I know it is going to be planted, and at the moment I am looking for a filter. Any suggestions? I'm looking at the Sponge, Internal, and Power. I kind of like the internal myself, but I want what is best for the fishies and plants. Any fish/plant suggestions would be great too!
I have a 5 planted tank and I find the whisper mini intank filter to work pretty well. The output is very mild so doesn't create any kind of agitation on the water surface at all...One of the reasons I like it so much..it's also very quiet. In the older models they have a flow adjustment on the back of the filter..but I recently picked up a newer model whisper 20..and it doesn't have that feature on it... Check for the adjustment on the back before you buy it..it's something you definitely want if you're going to put a betta in there.
I was planning on an Aquaclear Mini for my 5.5g planted betta tank, but since the closest retailer is over an hour's drive, I shopped locally and purchased a Duetto DJ-50.
So far it's rather nice ... the max flow is 55 gph, but you can adjust it lower. Currently I'm running it at 50%, and there's enough current to circulate plus let Tater Salad (my betta) swim comfortably. And it's a new favorite perching spot for him
The Duetto Mini also looks like a great choice; I would likely have purchased one of those if it were available.
I currently have 2 5 gallons setup. My betta tank runs an internal sponge box filter hooked up to an air pump. Bio filtration only but with only 1 fish not a problem. There are lots of plants as well.
The other 5 gallon is a QT tank with 5 white cloud minnows in it. It has a Whisper 5-15 HOB Power filter. This creates a bit of current but nothing those little guys can't handle.
So I guess it depends on what you plan on keeping in it.
i have 4 gallon cube tank and i use eheim 2213 to filter it
water is crystal clear for planted tanks, if youre using co2 then you should consider canisters.
EMG:
Is it the "Whisper Internal Micro Filter" you're referring to?
Edit: Never mind, I just found out the Whisper internal Microfilter isn't available to buy, only available with kits.
