Setting up a Lake Malawi Tank

lol love your fish G.

That OB Aulonacara in the top left corner looks awfully familiar....

LMAO!! Thanks Coler :)

So I was thinking I start with the Labs...which after that should I be looking to add..the peacocks would be last right?

So I have a new question...can you use a sump on a FW tank? I was thinking since I made a sump out of a 30g tank for my SW tank that I never got set up because of moving...could I use it on the 55 FW? It isn't completely ready I still need the overflow pump and it would be later down the road after I have the tank set up (cause well, I would rather buy fish then parts for that right now) but could it be used for that? Or would it be better just to tear it apart and have another tank?

YAY!!! Then I didn't make it for nothing!! Well, I'll have plenty of questions about setting that up down the road!! :grinyes:

I think I need a new heater or to add another...my temp isn't raising above 72...and I would like it a little higher then that.

Lady G -

I really like the rock work - I have slate in mine, but seeing yours makes me think about changing.

This thread has been fun and I can't wait to see the tank with some fish, at least ones that have a little more movement and personality than what you currently have :).

Well thank you Mcy! If you do decide to change your rock and you have a landscaping company or anywhere that sells it by the truck load..I suggest going there, it was only around 6 bucks for all my rock. I'm thinking about going and getting a couple more...cause now I have another thought of how I want it to look LMAO!!

I will be able to add some fishies after this weekend!!! WOOO-WHOOO, come on weekend:headbang2:

I need to know how to sex the Labs guys! I know one is a 0o and the other is oo right? If so which is which? Do I need to take a mag glass or will I be able to tell with the naked eye? I get paid tonight, but I work a double tomorrow and day on Sunday so it is looking like Monday would be the soonest I can go, unless they are open till 8 on sundays also then I may be able to make it up there Sunday after work. Before I go though in case they can't tell me, I need to know what to look for.

Female is Oo, male is oo. You may want to take a magnifier with you. If they are older (2"+) you can see with the naked eye. If they are very small you won't be able to tell at all and just buy several and let them sort it out once they grow some. Then return the extra males.
