setting up betta tank

a 1.5 gallon tank is to small for a betta. try a pair of male endlers instead and thats it.

It's a 2.5 gallon tank, not 1.5 gallons.

EmmaS, I have a filter that hooks onto the back of my tank, it's really quiet and you can adjust the flow (and takes up pretty much no space at all in the tank). I'm at work right now but when I get home I'll see what brand it is and I'll let you know.

I have yet to find a heater small enough for my 3 gallon tank... It's such a pain. Luckily I live in a hot place.

I second the red sea nano filter. Mine works great on my 2.5 gallon mini bow. I have a 25 W heater too. I tried the super cheap walmart special and it just didn't do the job, probably because we also keep the heat at about 62-65 in the winter. I also replaced the incandescant bulb with a compact flourescent BUT I battle algae issues even with adding flourish excel. Haven't quite worked out the details but the betta doesn't seem to mind the algae and the plants do grow. I keep telling myself algae is natural! So is the tank 1.5 or 2.5 gallons? While 2.5 gallons is O.K. for a betta, I do feel that a 1.5 gal. tank is to small for him.
