So I have a 5 gallon tank just sitting in my room running with nothing in it. I really want it to just have maybe 2 mystery snails in it and just keep it as an invert tank (if they breed obviously I will upgrade the size lol) But my question is to those that have or keep these, what do you think is the best way to cycle/start a tank to get ready for just 2 inverts? I want to do it the right way, but being VERY new to the aquarium thing in general, I am scared of doing it wrong and killing my new pets, so I want to make sure the tank is set up right before I put any in there. Thanks. - Ash

Thanks. I def plan on fishless cycling before I put anything in there, I just was not sure if there was a specific better way to cycle before inverts as opposed to typical cycling before fish. If it is exactly the same though I will just do it that way. thanks. :)

yep, exactly the same way.

one thing you want to do is check up on the recipes for invert food here on AC. I believe it is stickied in the inverts section. snail jello made with crushed up tums is a great food for apple snails!

Thanks :). I was actually reading that earlier today. I will probably try to make some snail jello and also aquire some other good veggies and things that they like before I get them so that they have a variety. I really want to eventually end up with a whole invert set up with different snails and maybe some shrimps, but I am not going to do that until after I see if I am any good at keeping the mystery snails. If it turns out well I will buy a bigger tank and try my hand at inverts. :)

i'd recommend against buying a ton of fresh foods for them all at once.... unless it's all you're feeding them and you have a plethora of hungry little guys, chances are most of it will go bad before you give it to them.

Im not too worried about veggies going bad in my house. I am a vegetarian who eats mostly organic and raw, so Im not going to stock up on anything that I wont eat myself. Just going to get some stuff that I like and that is good for them and try them on differnt stuff to see what they like. and I am going to just start with little stuff now and then since I only plan on starting with 2. I do want to make some of the snail jello though and see how that goes. Thats waaaay far away though since I have not even started cycling the tank yet. ;) Thanks for the advice though. I need all the help I can get. :)

aaaaaaalrighty then :D

Any good tips on where to get lowest prices on amonia/nitrite/nitrate tests? I live on a pretty slim budget and all the LPS around here charge almost $40 for the good test kits. I am hoping maybe I can find them a bit cheaper. I am really excited about starting the cycle. :D

nevermind, I found the API master test on Amazon for $20 so I ordered it. :)
