Setting Up New 375 Gal. Tank W/angels

Did not mean that pleco need a lower PH, just that they grow toooo big, and they eat plants.

Discus (IMO) do not do well with angels. Angels are very aggressive and will out compete the discus for food and space.

Clown loaches also grow very big (but very slowly from experience). To me clown loaches are too "nervous", always swimming at high speed.

sounds like you'll have yourself a nice tank.
Discus and angels should not be kept together for a few reasons
1- angel fish are more aggressive eaters than discus. Because discus are slow/shy when it comes to eating in a community tank, they will become stressed.
2- angel fish carry parasites that don't bother their own health but will kill discus.
I love angel fish but unfortunately I love the dicus more.... I did however mull threw the same dilema your in now.
I hoped this helped

That is interesting about the parasites I didn't know about that, I'll have to keep that in mind for future references.

How about Zebra Loaches or Bengal Loaches? They are cool and don't get as big as Clown Loaches. BTW, I was just saying that a 375 Gal tank is plenty big and would even be nice for Bala Sharks. Not saying you should get any. In other words, you have lots of options with a tank that size. :dive:

Corydoras Sterbai do well at 82 degrees - many discus keepers use these little guys over any other as the prefer the warmer temps found in discus tanks. A school of 10 or so of these would be great.

A few Banjo cats (4) would be an interesting alternative, but do need a sandy/soft substrate - great for turning over the substrate and snail control.

If deviating from the SA theme, zebra loaches are great, probably a group of 6. Good at snail control too.

If you are adding tetras, stick to a 2 schools of 15+ each - makes for a far more natural look.

Severums. They are friends of angels. Get your angels first though and then the severums. Festive cichlids are also perfect friends for angels and are pretty cool.

Blue Acaras are nice fish too. I dunno if they would be a problem for angels but my dad had one in a tank with an angel and they didn't bother each other.

Large schools of tetras definately with lots of vegitation and caves for them to escape the large angles. Kerri tetras are good cos they are quick. Better still get Emperors cos they grown twice as big as kerris.

Yeh dont get dsicus cos of the parasite thing. Discus are just worth too much and too fragile to be put with angels. One or the other is the general rule.

Rams are my fav fish but might be a bit small in your tank, not that they arent tough they will just look small and you would probably want some largish fish in your tank.

Should get a huge school of coris, about 15+, that would look awesome with that many schooling around your huge tank.

yes the parasite /disease is believed to contribute to HITH.

however, angels have been kept with discus..I have a pair of angels with 4 cobalt red discus. the discus I have come from parents that were tank rraised with angels.then seperated when the discus pair formed.

these discus will compete with angels for food as a matter of fact they will out compete the angels in this case.
I also know there are discus breeders ho keep angels with discus..one breeder keeps wild discus with wild angels

however, this was an experiment on my part..i will be moving the angels to a different tank(30 gallon planted) since they are a pair.

I do have other discus I would not put in a tank with angels..they are definatley more shy.

Ehiem Pro III and T-5 Lighting

I will be using Eco-Complete for a substrate. I will need a lot of it for the tank is 96" x 36" w. Plus a lot a live plants that can handle a high ph and hard water. What about Pictus Cats? Also for filters I was thinking about using two or three Ehiem pro III and t-5 lighting,(two 3 foot units) with moon lights. I don't want to keep the tank above 82 deg. and I don't want to use a chiller. Does any one have any experience with the above stated items? Do you think a heater(s) would be required for the winter in Florida? A 90 gallon sump came with the tank but my past experience has been that they are noisy and can cause overflow problems.
