ok i've got a 75 gallon tank that's going to be SW fish tank with maybe one sea anenime in it. i was thinking about going with a Emporer 400 outside filter that i found online for $42.00. What kind of heater would be good and what about powerheads? i'm from a small town so there's not great selection, so if anyone knows a good cheap online store, please let me know. also do i need to start out with a skimmer? I need brands, brands brands. Thanks all

If you want an anemone you will need live rock to be your main filter 2Lb per gallon so for a 75 you will need 150 LBs! the emporer will not cut it if you want sensitive invertabrates.

For Skimmers CPR Back Pack or Ac Remora are supposed to be good, i have a aquemedic mini floter which is ... ok at best

Whats the story behind the username??

You definitely want live rock, I suggest buying about 50 to 75lbs of live rock, I suggest getting it from at least 2 different stores just so you get the varitey...

Then I would get the rest of your rock as base rock. Its alot cheaper and it will become live with time.

another great store to shop at is www.petsolutions.com
I hate to tell you to look at ebay because you might outbid me :argue: ... but its definitely a good place to look

Also remember don't jump the gun, marine tanks take time to mature and be ready for thinks like nice corals and anenomes

get the rock and I suggest buying a little live sand to seed the plain sand, It will speed up your cycle.

Its good to do research, and you can find lots of stuff on this website.

BTW, a hob isn't bad just don't spend alot of money because they are really just for adding things like carbon media or giving brine shrimp a place to breed...

I turned my AC 500 HOB into a refugium for my 20g. Well Im still in the process of setting it up but im almost done. You can get a little light fixture to put on top and a PC bulb and take out filter media and add a couple of lbs of live rock and than some macro algae

how about stealth heaters? i've got a chance to get a 250W for about 15 bucks. any info? also the Visi-Therm Deluxe Heaters??? or maybe Hydor Theo Heaters? i looked at the jager heaters but their not fully submersible.

i would go with 60# of base rocks from http://www.hirocks.com/Our_Products.html, 75# or more of live rock, a coralife super skimmer 125, a portable refractometer, 2 x seio m820 power heads, or 3-4 maxijet 1200 power heads, and a 160g bucket of instant ocean salt. All of this will get you set up and ready to cycle and can be purchased at Big Als or www.liveaquaria.com. You will also need sand, how much depends upon how deep you want your sand bed. Sand can be purchased at Home depot or if you want a bright white sand, you can get it at Toys R Us.

After you get it set up, let it cycle, and once cycle is completed, stock slowly. Don't add too many fish at one time.

Ebo Jager heaters are entirely submersible. It's only through some bureaucratic BS that the max. water level line is required. If you look at any CSA-approved submersible electric device in Canada (like powerheads and heaters), you'll find the same "warning".

Aren't anenomes really hard to care for and to much is being taken from the coast and stuff, destroying the fishes habbitat..so destroying even more fish?
And fake anenomes look quite realistic.
