these folks here are pretty informative.
I just set up a 110 with love rock and a few soft coral..will be adding more corals as I can afford it.
it is quite a bit different than a fw tank as live rock can be a complete nitrogen cycle unlike with fw.
you still need to do water changes to remove dissolved solids but ..it is a very interesting venture.
it is a bit more expensive ..
I decided to get an ro unit as in the long run it will be less costly. I have set up two bins for water..one ro is fresh the other I mix a day before I do a water change.(that way you can get the specific gravity correct.)
I cycled with uncured live rock..you have to do some work but this rock was hand selected for me..I have currently about 130 # of live rock with plans to add more(will be setting up a 30 to cure live rock and use as a quarantine tank..
I have a refugium in my..wanted to add a bit more natural filtration..it has a deep sand bed and live rock in it.
live stock for me was a couple percula clowns(amphriprion occelaris) and a couple tangs(bristletooth tomini(Ctenocheatus tominiensus) and a powder brown (acanthrus japonicus) I didn't plan on the powder brown tang..my wife liked it ,knew I was looking at it and got it for me..it was on sale.
I also have a clean up crew..many snails, crabs etc.
