severum tank mates

I don't have the money for a 90 gallon or larger now. (My dog has been sick and I have been spending a large amount on vet bills) But I think I can get a 75 gallon now. Going out of town tomorrow and hopefully will get by a PetsMart or Petco and do some shopping.

Even if you end up with a 55 gallon, then your options are still pretty good i'd say.

If it were me though, I wouldn't get a Chinese Algae Eater because as they get older they tend to get more aggressive, and they tend to cling onto other fish and suck on their protective slime coating (NOT a good thing!).

I already have the chinese algae eater. I bought him as an algae eater to only learn later that he was a chinese algae eater. He was first in a community tank (with danios, guppies, and mollies) He was going after the other fish. Neither fish store would take him back. (I could not kill him) So, I went and bought a 10 gallon. (the tank I am up-grading) He hides most of the time now, I only see him out in the middle of the night and when he sees me he quickly goes into hiding. Do you think he will cause a problem in the bigger tank? Thanks

I think I am not going to get the rams. I have read in some post that they may be to timid for severums. In a 55 gallon, with 1 severum--how many tiger barbs would you put in there or what is another schooling fish that would look nice?

I would say at least 6. You could put 8-10 no problem.
Other schooling fish- Congo tetras, Buenos Aires tetras, or you could get some silver dollar tetras(disk tetra), but a school of them and the severum would be it.Imo

I got my 55 gallon tank set up. I used pea gravel as the tank covering. While I was shopping for tanks I visted many stores that sold fish. None of the ones I visited had any severums. (I was just looking--have to let it cycle) Are they hard to find? My wal-mart had about 8 of them, but they have all been sold. I do not think they are getting anymore in.

thanks for all your help. I look forward to stocking my tank.

I will try that when my tank gets closer to cycle. How long do you think it will take if I moved some of the stuff from the other tank? Right now I have 7 tiger barbs. It is amazing how much they seem to enjoy the extra room.
