It's just something some cichild species get during the breeding season or with some fish it lasts their entire life. It shows receptive females that the male is mature and old enough to breed.
99% sure it's a male...pointed dorsal and anal fins, thin long papillae, good color coverage, slight nuchul bump, etc. But you never know...cichlids surprise you
