Ask anyone who keeps multiple Ancistus — it's hard to keep them from breeding. I don't know how to sex plecos, so I didn't answer his question. I could pull something out of my *** and present it as factual information, but wouldn't that be a disservice to someone who's trying to learn here?
Then why are there so many pleco breeders? They are bred in captivity. Most people only keep one or 2, because they only want one or 2. If you want to breed plecos and do not have a confirmed breeding pair, then you need to keep at least 6 or more of the fish. When they pair up, then just sell the others or hope that the others pair up. You cannot just put a male and female pleco in the same tank and expect them to breed, unless you're lucky.
