If i take some pics of my large snail, can u identify them. I',m new to this and mama just had 12 babies!
:welcome: to AC!

Make a new thread about it so you can get more responses.:)

I have Pics now in my album!

Just want to find out species! Not a big deal, but they look like Viviparus malleatus. How long should the 12 babies stay in with mama before food
supply becomes an issue?:help:

What is a thread? A new blog?
Something like that but far from the actual blog that you find on the 'Blogs' at the menu bar of this forum. Click 'New Thread' in this forum to be able to create a new thread.:)

Maybe someone can help me. I had picked up one of these snails with the intention of it living in the same tank as my betta. Much to my surprise, not 4 hours later she gave birth to 3 babies. I seperated the mama and babies from the betta. Since that time (at least 4 weeks ago) she has birthed 5 more, 3 of them last weekednd. How many can I expect and what is the best way to care for them?

Vivs eat mainly algae and decaying matter such as dead leaves. Those are something to consider when feeding them. Supplementing them seems impossible. I tried it myself and they never eat commercial foods except for a few ones whom I just managed to by handfeeding them. I haven't tried veggies on them yet so I can't comment about that one.

They seem to be eating the commercial food just fine but they are developing a slimy coat on them that seems to be causing them some diffuculty getting around. Should they be in a filtered tank? I was concerned that the little ones could get sucked up into the filter.

Right now they are all in a 1/2 gallon betta tank. (My ten gallon and 5 gallon is occupied). It is at room temp and I have been using an air stone just to keep the water circulating. Seems to be helping with slime build up. My wife and I want to get them into a proper setting but seek advice before spending alot of money. These little guys were unintended, but certainely not unwanted, pets. I bought one and ended up with nine! Please help!
