is there anyway to tell the difference between a male and a female perlmutt. I just got two perlmutts and the lady at the fish store said she thought one was a male and one was female. The one thought to be a male has very light stripes and a nice creamy white color. the one thought to be a female has very dark stripes.

I can't tell the difference between my males and females. The dominant male usually has the best colors, but sub-dominant males look just like the females to me. I think they have to be vented.

mine are easy to sex, the males are very light.the lady at the store told you right.you must be having a good week.lol

The dom. male should be a creamy white(with no or very light stripes). The females and sub dom. males will have stripes. You probably can't tell the sub dom males and females apart, they can both have stripes ranging from very light to very dark.

The fish in my avatar is my Male perlmutt, as you can see he looks very different then the females
