I know corals shed that mucus stuff every so often, but how often is too often? The piece I got from my LFS last week has is working on it's second time already. Is this is a good thing or is it lacking something?
Thanks!
I have had softies for a year and a half now. I've heard people say they shed every so often, but the only time I've experienced it was when I had water quality issues. Check to see your alk is not too low, your pH is good, and your temp is not above 84.
It's a toadstool leather coral, according to an ID given here on another post of mine.
I do not have an Alk test (apparently need one, huh?), but the temp is 80 and the pH is 8.0. Is that too low? If it is, what's the best/most stable way to bring it up and keep it up?
Thanks!!
Oh, and even though it has shed (or whatever you call it) twice now, both times it came out looking even prettier than before, for what that's worth.
Toadstool leathers frequently shed while adjusting to new tanks. It will happen less and less often as it settles in. As long as it continues to look as good or better afterwards as it did before, no worries. Perfectly normal for toadstool leathers.
