Shell as tank decoration?

I have a cool looking sea shell I woul like to use as a tank decoration. I did the "vinegar test" and nothing happenned. Are there any negative consequences to using this in my tank? Do I need to worry about it raising my ph? It is already pretty high.

Depends on the shell. Are you sure it is not an artificial one? Can you post a pic?

I am sure it isn't artificial, I found it at the beach!

It will tend to raise your pH, other than that it should be fine as long as the beach where you found it wasn't polluted with anything toxic.

i would be concerned about fish getting trapped in it somehow. as cute as cories are, sometimes they aren't the brightest of fish. a member a couple months ago lost several cories due to them getting stuck in some decorative shells.

I don't think a single shell will have much of a change on your tank, especially taking water changes into account. But as Wata noted, small fishies getting trapped in their could be a concern.
