Shellie Babies

golden pearls are great

Ditto. It's what I feed my shellies. Try grinding it super fine between your fingers when you feed the others. And don't forget clean water is as important as feeding for healthy fry(and all the others for that matter:)).

On another note along the same lines, I've had several spawns of babies disappear since my first three. My guess is that some of the others are intruding during the night and getting them:swear:. So I wouldn't go as far as to say they don't eat their own at all!

Oh - in that case, yes I'd move them if you can do so by moving the shells they are in. Just make sure that you move as much of the water as possible, substrate, decor, etc. as well as the filter they are using right now, to prevent cycling. Wouldn't hurt to add a bacteria supplement to the new tank also, if you haven't had any other fish in it to cycle it out. If you wait for the smaller babies to grow before you move them, you're probably going to have the same situation with a younger spawn anyway.

I put shells from the tank I have the shellies currently in, in the 40 gallon long a bit ago when I set up the tank so cycling should be good plus tap water conditioner/chlorine remover (stress coat think it was plus or something).

Currently feeding them a mixture of crushed cichlid pellet, crushed NLS pellets, a little powdered bloodworm, powdered baby shrimp, crush spirulina flake, and crushed tropical flake.

I have 4 new shellies coming from msjinkzd tomorrow (hopefully) once they get here I will move everyone to the 40 gallon long and get some pictures once they have some time to get settled.

Here are some pictures of my new shellie setup with some closeups of the shellies, unfortunately babies are in a hard to photograph spot of the tank. The four shellies I got from msjinkzd got here safe and it looks like either she sent me a pair or one of my odd ones out may have paired up with one because they seem very buddy buddy. Besides that looks like I already have two pairs out of my seven shellies (pretty good) if I do say so myself (got those ones from Drgrcr) and have counted 7-8 babies at one time. So with the addition of msjinkzd group of 4 I have seven juvis and/or adults, two breeding pairs, and two other possible pairs from the looks of things :thm:

1st pic is of the setup it is in a hard to photograph location and really doesn't look that dirty, but the light makes every otherwise invisible spot show, water make still be a bit cloudy from adding the sand from the 10 gallon the shellies used to be in.

Pics 2-3 are of my two breeding pairs guarding their young.

Pictures 4-5 are of another possible breeding pair.

Last picture is of the other possible pair I spoke of which is either made of of both msjinkzd shellies or one of mine and one of hers, off to the left is one of the younger ones she sent me.
