I just went around stores in my area to see if I could buy any shells and essentially found nothing. Where do you guys find your shells? I found some mail-order places in US but so far, none in Canada...

Any Canadians here? :)

I went to my local pond and picked up some large trap door snail shells to use for my occies. They use them, but I haven't had any breeding with them.

I was referred to http://cichlidbreeding.com/index.php. I was told the "whale eye" shells are preferred by the fish. I picked up 20 for around $10.

at walmart. i found a bag of shells. but they were expensive. hobby lobby sells them 2.

you have to be careful with the craft shells. The turbo type or conch shells can trap a fish.. depending on size and body type.

you might also try going to a local seafood store for escargot shells...I have heard they work too

The Walmarts I've been to don't carry any shells. And craft stores like Michaels sometimes carry them but the price was insane. They also don't carry many at a time.

mickitaz, I think I am going to give that place a try - they seem to deliver to Canada, albeit higher shipping cost... Still much cheaper than anything else I have seen so far...

Thanks everyone. :)

No problem.. btw.. what kind of shellies do you have?

None yet. :) I am getting 15G long (24x12 footprint) tank ready for them.

I am looking into one of:

- Multies
- Occelatus Gold
- Brevis

I need to go to the stores again and study them in detail again. If you were doing this, which would you choose? :)
