I am about to pull my hair out finding shells for the brevis I ordered. None of my local grocery stores sell escargot, none of my LFS's sell Neothauma Tanganicensis shells, I can't find any decent shells at the craft stores around here, I swear there is not a French restaurant to call within 50 miles of here (I live in redneckville)........AGGHH. The fish will be here in two days and I don't have any homes for them. Any ideas? Does anyone have a good source for the Neothauma shells online? I have a few sea shells here at home that MIGHT work, but I think they are going to be too big.....

Does your LFS sell regular snail shells. I just went to one of the big petstores in town and asked if htey had any empty snail shells(from snails that died,etc.). They had a bunch for 10cents each.

BUt if you can't find any shells and dont' want to order online(ebay usually has some) then you can use PVC elbows. Buy the 1/2"-3/4" PVC elbows and put and end cap on the end. ITs not the most visually appealing option but soemtiemst the fish prefer these over shells.

Excellent idea with the PVC. :D Thanks for the quick response! I'll check on the snails at a few other places in the phone book......but the places around me only sell small snails. I'm not sure if any of them would be big enough......then again, I've never seen a brevis in person so I don't know how big they need to be. I guess I'll find out in 2 days. :D

eBay... You can get HUGE lots of shells of all kinds, most relatively cheap. I almost went with a shellies tank, but I couldn't find them locally and couldn't afford the ridiculous cost of shipping many fish online.

I'm actually ordering them through one of my LFS's. They are only charging me $13 per brevis and they are going to get them tomorrow. :D I ordered 4 and will be picking them up Wed. or Thursday.

I actually got a response from one of the online places that has the shell I was looking for. They are $2 each......but ordering seems to be a pain. They don't have a phone number, and only seem to deal through e-mail..........which they don't seem to be in any hurry to answer. Oh well....I'll look for something temporary to do until I am able to place an order with these guys: http://www.exotic-cichlids.com/Stock list.htm Thanks for all the ideas.

Half buried tiny flower pots are kind of nice as well. A little more appealing than the PVC, IMO. Plus it will allow you a good look at what is going on inside.
