Shipping fish

Whoopsie. I forgot to add this. If you are shipping Snails...Brigs or Canas, you need a shipping permit from the USDA. They are a controlled species. You need a permit for every state you plan to ship them to.

The last of my permits came in this morning! Yay!!
what do those look like? because i am planning on shipping mine...

Malbri I haven't shipped before but I've gotten shipments, I'd recommend for starters cardboard box (duh), packing peanuts, heater pack this time of year, breather bags, bubble wrap, newspaper. Also think about styro.

how long(as in amount of time) of a heater pack?

and does any1 know what age swordtails should be before shipping?

I thought for my snails... i put them in some water in a bag with air and ship them in popcorn...

Moderator, could we please make this a sticky?

I was just going to ask for a thread on this topic when I found it - thank you all, I am just about to have to get into the shipping thing with my little HRP's, so this is perfect timing!

The most common I see for heat packs is 40 hours, does this sound good with express shipping?

and does anyone use anything like bag buddies

40 hours is good for express shipping, but for 2-3 day shipping I'd use 60 hour heat packs.

I notice people are mentioning UPS and Fedex, but I've been planning to ship a fish, and checked with these two companies, and both told me that they cannot ship live fish. Were these just customer support reps that didn't know what they were talking about?
