Shipping snails

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone could tell me the best way to ship snails.

I have a bunch of trumpets in one tank that have been a little too enthusiastic with the reproducing, and rather than compost them, wanted to see if anyone here wanted some for free+shipping or trade for plants. But I've never shipped snails before, and don't want to kill them in the process. If I figure out the logistics, I'll post in the Classified section.

I'm thinking wrapped in wet paper towels in an inflated plastic bag, well padded/insulated box, and a heatpack?

Also, is it only the brigs/cana snails that need permits for shipping, or all snails?
 
I do not believe you need a permit for pond snails or mts. As for the shipping, I'll leave that to someone with experience.
 
Thanks, Mgamer, I saw that thread (and it's great!), but it wasn't specific to snails so I thought I'd ask.

Do you ship snails like shrimp, in water, then? Or would just the wet paper towels be OK?

i post mine in wet paper towels then place in a polystirean cup. rapp with bubble rapp then rap in packing paper never had any problems.

i post about 10+ packages of these a week.
 
I don't think I would ship snails in water either if possible, its easier for their shells to get damaged from jostling that way. When I purchased my snails (brigs, not mts mind you) they were shipped to me in moistened polyfill inside a small container (like a baby food plastic jar) taped tightly shut. This was housed inside a larger box with lots of wrapping materials. This time of year a heat pack would probably be necessary.
