Shipping to Canada, and Evaporating Fish

Oh come on...you just know those Canadians are up to something!

Sorry to say Todd, but I pretty thoroughly researched what happens with a deal gone wrong for the seller's end of things with PayPal. My son sold 4 rims and tires to a fellow in Norway I believe it was, last year. There was a lot of money involved, specialty rims, and we needed to get them to a transhipper in Newark....and to say the least I was scared to death that we'd get ripped off. Unfortunately PayPal seems to side almost 100% with the buyer and....if they decide in favor of the buyer, they'll just take the refund out of your account without blinking. Lucky for me, the whole deal went through without a hitch. I think it took a month for those rims and tires to reach their destination on the slow boat. I was just really, really in disbelief that the buyer doesn't seem to have to prove too much about not getting the goods. Doesn't seem right at all. Good luck to you, you've definitely been tampered with!:uhoh:

The guy is definitely a scammer. But if you shipped those fish without the proper customs clearances you engaged in a criminal act. No court will uphold any rights in such a case. It's like complaining to the BBB about getting ripped off in an illegal drug deal. Consider your loss to be tuition to The School of Hard Knocks and move on.

Yea here was another deal of mine (2 with canadian ship to's) the most recent I had on ebay 2 Headrest LCD dvd players for sale. I shipped them without a tracking # or proof of delivery, I know that was stupid.

Buyer emails me a week later stating they never recieved them. I had to pay it back. But from now on, 1 I won't ship to a canadian address, and 2 I wont ship without a tracking # or Delivery Confirmation.

Yeah, I think Customs in most countries are pretty strict about importing animals of any type. It doesn't make sense to me that they'd remove some but send the rest along. The guy probably depends on this legal can-of-worms to prevent sellers from complaining too much.

Did you miss the part where he said he filled out the customs paperwork, etc?

I have all the e-mails he sent, and he even stated again in the paypal dispute that he had told me to write "fish stuff" as the contents of the package so it wouldn't be opened by customs. Sorry, but I prefer to be straight and honest; my integrity and peace of mind are more valuable to me than a box of pleco's.
I still haven't received or seen any pics of anything, and the fact that it was a couple days after the shipment arrived that he suddenly discovered that the box had been opened and then repacked in another box (and the cardboard was still damp?) makes me less inclined to believe what he says. If he had immediately taken pics and sent them along with his first e-mail I would probably have been less skeptical. At this point his credibility is zero...

Did you imagine it? Nowhere in the original post is mention made of customs paperwork, only international shipping paperwork.

Several times in the past I've been asked about shipping BN to Canada. I was reluctant to try it because I didn't know how much trouble it would be to get fish through customs. A few weeks ago someone e-mailed me (no clue where he read that I have BN available, or found my e-mail, but that's beside the point) and wanted some pleco's. I gave him a price for 2m/2f sexable adults, and received paypal payment shortly afterward. I had the fish bagged and ready to go Priority Mail, and went to print out the shipping label, then realized he was in Quebec. I unbagged the fish, refunded the payment and apologized.
He was very insistent, however, that he wanted the pleco's. I explained that I would need to order some poly filter for bagging first, wouldn't guarantee live arrival, and the postage would cost more than the fish. He still insisted that he wanted them, so I ordered the supplies then found I also had to order some forms and envelopes for international shipping as well.
Last Saturday I bagged the 4 BN individually in doubled breather bags with a chunk of poly filter to absorb ammonia and other organic pollutants in transit. I packed enough loose newspaper in the box to cushion the bags, filled out the customs form/s (multiple copies) and shipped out the box at the local post office.
Friday I received 2 e-mails, one from the buyer and one from paypal. He claimed that he only received one BN rather than 4, and filed a dispute with paypal. I responded to both, stating that I had sent 4 fish, and if there were any missing it was because customs had taken them out. He replied through the paypal dispute that the box had not been opened before he received it, and that customs would have included a note if they had removed anything. My response was that he needed to check with the postal service. The box was weighed in just short of 8 lbs when I sent it out, and I'm sure it was weighed again somewhere along the way before being delivered. I really think he's simply lying, and hoping to get either more fish or a refund through paypal. :bs: :mad2:
Any other idea/s that may be helpful in this situation would be appreciated, the box weight was the only thing I could think of. :help:
