Shop light reflector

I have a 48" shop light hanging over my 125. I had read in another post that the reflectors aren't all that effective. The only plants that I have growing in there are hornwort and anubias. Do I need to improve upon the reflector? I had read that you could paint it?

You could get a plastic gutter and either find an aluminum one or find a bright white one to reflect the light back at the tank.

I'm really sorry... a little technically challenged here. What do you mean by a plastic gutter? Also, the tank is acrylic with a built in top so I can't attach anything to it... if that makes a difference

A rain gutter is the thing on the edge of a roof where the rain drains into and eventually flows out into a drain or just in a yard. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rain_gutter Plastic gutters are about 10 dollars for 20 feet at lowe's, although I haven't seen an aluminum one there. Just cut it to size with a saw, sand the edges, then paint the inside bright white or if it's aluminum, just polish it with a metal polishing liquid.

its really not worth it. your not going to get much more light. its better to save your money to upgrade the lighting if you want to grow much or at least add another one or two shop lights.

^Agreed. I doubt one 48" shop light over a 125 would grow much of anything, with or without a reflector.

with 2 shop lights you can grow plants pretty good.. but still it will be a waste of watts..
