Should I add it or not?

Hi, friends!
You know, maybe it is a caprice; but I'm feeling the need to have in my tank one blue with black bars fish as a centerpiece. I was thinking in one Pseudotropheus demasoni or Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos (Maingano) or maybe a male Cynotilapia afra of some variant (this last one can be more difficult to be found where I live). Now, should I add it or not; according to the species that I already have in my tank? See My Tank Setup if you don't know the species that I already have in my 55gal.
Thanks for your advices!:thm:

From what I remember you have great filtration but I'd say you're coming up on a stocking limit in terms of numbers...that said one more is likely not to anything,

As you are only adding the one fish, with the numbers you have already, I would say the real issue is likely to be how the new addition gets on rather than how it impacts on the rest of 'em...I would go ahead and try one of those three...with a plan B (return/rehome/re-tank) in case it doesn't work out.

I think a demasoni is a nice choice. I have one in my tank and even though he is very aggressive, he has yet to hurt any of my fish so I keep him. He is just so pretty and I can't bear to part with him. Like coler said it would be a good idea to have a back up plan in case it doesn't work.

I also choose demasoni because I rarely see nice looking Maingano, though they may be better where you are. I have a group of afras myself and they are beautiful but my dominant male doesn't keep his pretty colors all the time. My demasoni pretty much always looks the same everytime I look in the tank even though he is not the dominant fish.

not to hijack this thread....but I was about to post this question, relates:

Is this a demasoni? rescued him other day from a crappy LFS

At that size it's really difficult to tell. Could be a kenyi, a small cobalt blue or some kind of hybrid. I have seen some small demasoni that look just like adults but I have also seen some paler ones at the crummy lfs. I don't think that one is a demasoni, the stripes are not defined enough and no black in the fins. You might have to wait till it gets a bit bigger to be sure.

as for the fish ID its not a demasoni i will have to agree with blue2fyre it looks like a cobalt or kenyi juvie..

hey efors i was thinking on adding a maingano to my 55gal just because i like the look of them and i will probably go get one tomorrow..
