Interesting to read this post-
I would ask so many questions-
Ex: how do we know clove oil doesn't hurt?(I'm serious-here- not being skeptical) because I have always been told that freezing is the best way to go- by everyone I've ever talked to in a fish shop-(and that's a lot!)
Once they are anesthetized by the cold, (when the temp is dropped,like what is described on that euthanasia site that was recommended) I believe they will not feel the pain when I go to do the actual freezing.
Also, (this is the respiratory therapist in me) I think the co2 sounds like suffocation- which, really doesnt sound too great to me-
but, I would like to know about the clove oil...because if someone can convince me I will use it.

I don't know how clove oil affects fish, but i have used it after a root canal to numb my mouth and it works beautifully for that...its a great anesthetic. I would imagine it does the same with fish.

All I know is that The fish goes to sleep within about 20 seconds using clove oil. I also understand that they don't feel pain like we do but pressure. Not sure if it's true or not.

Maybe freezing works but it takes a while for water to freeze so not sure if the fish would "suffer" while the water is getting cold of if the fish goes off to sleep...

As far as what to do with your dead fish, I like to put them in my garden.
