I was thinking of moving my 2 otto cats from my 10 gallon tank to my 30 gallon tank. There isn't much algae in the 10 gallon right now. They've done a really good job with the 10 gallon. I'm afraid they don't have much to eat in the 10 gallon anymore. The 30 gallon has a good bit (my nice way of saying a lot lol) of algae in the 30 gallon. I already have 3 algae eaters in the 30 gallon. I have 2 otto cats and one clown pleco in the 30 gallon with the ottos being more active than the clown pleco. Now I know getting rid of algae is my job and I don't really expect the algae eaters at get rid of all the algae. I just want to make sure my ottos have enough food. I've never really seen them eating the algae wafers I give them, I'm pretty sure the snails get to the wafers before they do. Do you think moving them to the 30 gallon tank will be ok? I mean they don't look skinny but I don't want anything to happen to them. I've had them for at least a year so I've gotten attached to them :). I do plan on testing the water in my 30 gallon and doing a water change before putting them in the tank. I reccently had my male swordtail die. I honestly don't think he died from any illness. I have him for about one and a half to 2 years. But it's better to be safe than sorry right?

You can move them but either way you should continue to feed them. I would mix it up a bit, maybe with some cucumber or zucchini or other veggies. You can microwave them in some water for about a minute but I usually just throw it in the tank and let them have at it.

Would they eat broccoli? I just got some fresh broccoli tonight. I've always fed them the algae wafers. how long do you leave the veggies in the tank?

if you slice the brocolli stems thin they might I guess never thought of trying it though. I usally feed my cucumber slices. I just clamp a plant weight on it and let them go at it. My otos like flake food, variety pellets, and pretty much anything. If you're putting algae wafters in there I'm sure they're eating them. Healthy otos usally have a little pug in my opinion.

If you have 2 in the 30 and 2 in the 10...I'd definitely move the guys in the 10 to the 30. Partially because there's more algae, but more importantly, more company. These guys like to school, mine travel all over the glass in my 46 in diamond formation. They'll be happier in a larger group.

:iagree: They are definitely happier in larger numbers!

I did have three ottos in my 10 gallon. How many ottos do you recommend that I have? I thought 3 ottos in the 10 gallon was good. How many should I have in the 30 gallon? I'm going to try and give them some brocolli then I'll try some cucumber tomorrow. I was thinking of give some brocoli to my goldfish as well. I'll let you know if they eat it or not.

I'd say move them, they should be fine with 4, in a 30g you could go up to 5 or 6 if you have the space bioload-wise (it looks like you should from your sig). I think blanching vegetables before feeding them is the preferred method. Good luck with them, ottos are awesome!

so you think moving them would be a good idea? I'll move the 2 ottos from the 10 gallon into the 30 gallon sometime this week. So you think I could get 5 or 6 in my 30 gallon? Would 4 be ok or should I get more than 4?
