should i qt?

ok, i think im going to set up a 20g long tomorrow when i can get one.

How does this sound....
20g long- bare bottom/PVC pipe.
aqua clear HOB filter (filled with LR rubble?)
Small powerhead
Heater.

Also, set it up with 100% new salt water, or do i use some established tank water?

Thanks for the blog read grins, good stuff.

Most use the filter media itself, rather than live rock rubble...personaly, i would not use live rock in the QT process or systems..

Starting off with new saltwater is fine in my opinion..If you take water from your display and you have a free swimming parsite, your just transfering this in to the QT tank...

Just my thoughts..

ok, so i just keep doing WC's to keep up with the cycle?

yeah.. that makes sense.

I have an old aqua clear that im not using, i used to use it on my nano for extra flow/live rock... it will hold a lot of media... not sure on what the flow is anymore though. If i had to guess id say it probably gives me like 200-250 GPH. If i clean it out, is it usable to do you think? What type of media, just foam media? Or carbon too?

Thanks.

By the way... butter's sister is doing well =)

She doesnt really have one... but i think im going to call her margarine only because butters is taken =).

Had her about 3 months i think... she was a petco rescue. She doesnt seem to grow very much though... any idea on the speed of the growth rates?

I know your a golden lover too like myself, so heres my 1 1/2 year old male.

Ohhhhh! Love him! I just woke my dogs up so they could look at yours and my female cocked her head to the side at him..lol

Butters was a PetCo rescue as well, he has grown but not terribly fast either, however he has plumped up nicely as can be ween in his pics. His color looks great and he regularly swims in and out of the rock work, not hiding too much.

Yeah, my tang has good activity as well as colors too... growth just doesnt seem great. I'm hoping for the best and feeding nori daily =). I love to drop nori into the tank, because its awesome to watch my tang and trigger fight over it (not violently of course).

Were hoping that our male will be show worthy in time, but who knows. Since you got me on a picture kick heres one of my female as well. Shes 4 now. Getting white fasttt. I attached one of the both of them as well. =).

How much is she eating on the nori a day? Butters eats a 1/2 sheet daily. I try to make sure the clip is full before feeding the rest of the tank. He also eats Formula II and some of the meaty foods as well.

Your female has a sweet face. The breeder wanted to show Cody (Rainey his mother, and my other female used to be a champion) but lets just say he had an ummmm "issue" that made us decide otherwise.
