I have a small amazon sword plant (melon sword), and i have put into the gravel some root tabs from seachem, I add CO2 to the tank and also some of Seachems flourish excel; but have yet to find any pearling on the plants. My tank is a small 2.5 gal( when sword gets too big will put into another tank), that has a compact flourescent light of 13watts, 5000K and a temp of about 72F, why isn't my plant pearling? Also use seachem Flourish Iron.

Also I was wondering why my Java ferns never pearl since they are in the same tank?

Well plants only pearl when they are in optimal growing conditions. Seems you aren't using all the required fertilizers - there may be an imbalance. Read the sticky on ferts: you need traces, Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium, none of which you seem to be using. It's good that you are using root tabs though, since swords are heavy root feeders. FYI: If you are adding CO2 you don't need flourish excel.

yes I know that I dont have to use a CO2 injector, but I made it and it seems to be doing pretty good, so I just alternate the CO2 with the excel when needed. The main reason that I started to go back to the injector is that the excel that I got had a label under it saying that it was only flourish, but I bought it as being labeled flourish excel (which was the label on top of the flourish); does the excel have a garlicy smell b/c Im not sure if I got the flourish or flourish excel? Therefore I have gone back to the injector, the injector used to make my fish gasp for air but now it doesn't the plants just absorb it so there is no problem. I am diffusing the CO2 with an airstone that I put on the end of the tube that connects to the soda bottle (DIY CO2 injector). The anubias nana were getting yellow b/c I had them on the bogwood instead of in the substrate, gosh I have so much learning to do. Therefore I did a little more research and placed them in the substrate today, and then I put some a root tab near them and have been injecting with CO2, they were pearling but getting yellow before I placed them in the gravel. Hopefully now they will get the nutrients they need now(b/c I have put a root tab in for them). Also I have changed the light and put in a 13watt 5000K compact bulb in, I really hope that the plants will do better now that they have better conditions.

Also I was wondering if 13watts 5000K is enough wattage and Kelvins to grow planst such as glossostigma, water wysteria, and crystalwart?

If not ohwell, Ill stick to my sword, anubias, and java fern.

Flourish has a reddish brown color, while Flourish excel is completely clear.

Oh ok then, I have flourish excel then. If I get some of the flourish(original), do you think I need to get the whole line of flourish to keep my plants healthy or do you think they could survive with just the flourish?

You would need flourish for the trace elements and then the other elements. I should be getting the other elements soon. Yes Flourish smells really bad and it is a brown color and excel is completely clear. If you are injecting co2 you don't really need excel. Are you doing Diy co2 or pressurized?

DIY. it actually worked! I have a continuous stream of CO2, its practically the only thing that has worked out for me. I should be getting flourish soon, and the rest of the flourish( potassium, phosphorous, nitrogen). That company Seachem really has it down, in making us spend as much money as we can on their products.
