I bought him from Massive Aggression and he told me it was a jurupari.... he is a geophagus expert. Anyways I really love this geo.

Here are some photos of the two. I believe yours looks like the first picture, which is a S. leucosticta. The second photo is a S. jurupari. Jurupari lack facial markings. I'm not trying to be mean, it just bothers me when fish are incorrectly labeled.

Well I guess your right... but it doesn't matter because I love him..hes my favorite.
They seem like awesome earth eaters! My lfs has some in a display tank I definitely check them out everytime i go in! Sorry if I came off like butt earlier! Geos come in lableled as either S. jurupari or G. surinamensis but turn out to be a different species quite often....it's sad. Good Luck with your geos!
Here are some older pics. I'm in the process of moving all my gymnogeos to their own 60g tank so I can cool them down this winter. I have two species: Gymnogeophagus n. sp. "Sequiera" and G. labiatus.
I would but these gymnogeos need a cool down period in the winter (60s) which would probably kill any geophagus or satanoperca. Also the tank is only 60g so a jurupari wouldn't be able to live in there for life since they get around 10". But probably around X-mas time I'm going to be setting up a 180g for my SA Lungfish and he'll be getting some geo friends!
