i got a new goldie, would like to know what kind he is since for the life of me cant remember what the LFS lady said.

ill have to add him later , photobucket is down for maintenance...dangit

.........he is fire red and velvety black........very handsome...and very long fins and really long bottom 2 fins hang very low....back fin is curved slightly out.

Bea, we need the photos to identify it better but it sounds like veiltail to me.

i know these images are not very good, but im not good at aquatic photography and FIRENZ is a active little guy/gal.

Is breeding stars the only way to tell if they are male/female? and how old do they have to be to tell...?

looked @ a photo of a veiltail and that is his body type for the most part, but he is slender and more long than round, but no too long. His fins are that way but it said they are either orange and white or calico...?? is this website wrong?

He looks like a telescope eye to me, but I'm not an expert. The website is just a guide - don't forget goldfish come in so many different colours and varieties, and you may get some that have been crossbred with other types, so you may not get a perfect identity. They also change colour as they get older/get exposed to different conditions, so I wouldn't go on colour as an ID.

The orange fish you see in my avatar used to be pure black, as an illustration.

Definitely a telescope, but I will be very surprised if the black stays black. Most likely it will change to either gold or white. Black is not a very stable color in goldfish, with the exception of moors and recently some ranchu.
