shrimp newbie with questions...

My only comment on Ghost Shimp so that I dont hijack this tread.

There are many species of shrimp in the United States that are labeled "Ghost Shrimp". Some are fully freshwater shrimp, some are brackish, some are able to breed and raise the larva in freshwater and some have to have brackish for the larva.

The most common Ghost Shrimp in the US is the American Glass Shrimp (Palaemonetes paludosus).

This shrimp can be raised in freshwater. It hatches as a larva, but will develop quickly into a miniature version of the adult shrimp. This species is semi aggressive and will sometimes eat small shrimp and very small fish if they can catch either.

They seem to be out and about more today. Maybe they were MIA from the molt? Anyway, thank you for the advise I will make sure I supplement their food.

YOU CAN DO IT. say that over and over again. inverts are just as nice as a tank with only fish. theres always doing something other than swimming. i catch myself looking at my invert tanks more and more. caryfish are also very neat to watch. its like a larger version of shrimp that you can feed stuff. lil garbage disposals lol.

Hi
I have a 120g, heavily planted community tank. Kh 0, Gh 2.5 (tap water) Ph 6.5
4 clown and 5 chinese loaches. some discuss, 18 neon tetra and some other Tetra. Some Cory cats.
One year ago I bought a mix of about 15 unindentified shrimps. Some where clear with spots, some I guess woodshrimps, some reddish ones. I still don't know what I have.
Two weeks ago I moved the tank. I had more than 150 shrimps, all kinds of, all sizes.
I knew I had many, as they compete with the fish, even the loaches, about the food. Swimin te open, crawl arround basically everywhere. Going for the pellets, green I occasionally put in. But did not know I have so many.
But I know, in case I open another tank, shrimps are a must. They are cute, funny, entertaining, little creatures. Go for them if you can.

^^^^^ see there crazy.

i now have another invert tank. a lil half gallon with my berried ghost shrimp. well see what type of offspring it is? brackish larvae, freshwater larvae, freshwater mini adults. (hopefully the later of the 3)

i use just a airline on it and put alot of stuff with benificial bac on it. some live plants and gravel, stones, more live plants and tank water.

i only feed 1 to 2 flakes a day.

i gotta do some small wc tooo.

and i finally got PRIME. i heard its the best????

Sounds easy enough, you definitely got me interested. What about the lights for the plants?

Can't get prime here, so no idea how good it is. But read about it removing heavy metals as well? Not good, pants needs some metals...

yea there isnt a light on the nursery, but the hornwort is low low light and so is java moss.

and i had a post about the diff water treaters and no one really got back to me. i thought that you would want some of those things in your tank too.

but i bought it anyhow.
