nope.. shrimp are hearty little buggers and I have seen them thrive in a new tank-- even one that isnt totally cycled

Not to be disagreeable here, but it is always best to add shrimp to a fully cycled mature tank. Yes indeed RCS are quite hardy and may show no ill effects, but this is not the case with some of the species in the Caridina genus and even some Neocaridina sp.

I have learned this the hard way a couple years back! Yup I was in a hurry and paid for that mistake with lost shrimp. A cycled but not matured tank is like a desert for shrimp, yes they can can breath and the water is fine, but the bio film is not yet established itself fully and this is very important for adults as well as young.

Just my 2 cents.....
