Hi all I just bought a new shubunkin for my pond. I let the bag float for about 15 min. and let the fish back out. It has been about 3 days now, and he still hasnt come out to feed. He will come out into the open, but whenever he sees me he just darts back under some plants, or between rocks. So I was wondering if he will start acting normal like all of the other goldfish soon. i am just concerned that he will starve if he doesnt come out to feed. All of the other fish seems to be fine so I do not see what the problem is... could the water bee too cold for it? it is about 60 degrees outside, and I did notice that when he does come out, he doesnt move much either. plz help:help:

He's just scared. It can take time for them to adapt to a new surrounding. When I first added my new shub's to my tank they hid in the slate for 5 days. Then out they came and ever since are little piggies. Just give him some more time to get to know you and the other fish in the pond and he'll be fine.

routine is good. once they realize that you come around certain times of the day, and observe how the other fish act when youre around, they'll warm right up.

Yes! you guys are right! he actually came out to feed yesturday. but today I found this cat looking in the pond, and clawing at the fish..... after I let my dogs out to get rid of him, I checked, and the shubunkin is back hiding inder some plants..... and hes been like this for like 3 hours now.... I hope hell come out tomorrow. F**kin cat!!!!!

Back in the 60s, my uncle lost quite a few fancy goldfish to a cat that decided to "go fishing." He was not happy. The cat's only doing what comes naturally, but I'd worry, too. Good luck protecting your pets! (I have a feeling he'll learn not to come around if he runs into your dogs a few times.)
