So I've had my pl*co for about a week and a half now, and in that span of time I think I've seen it a total of two times, I have no idea where it's hiding, or if it ever comes out and eats (I put some cucumber and algae wafers in there). Anyone else have any experience with a "shy" pl*co, think he'll be ok?

Mine was "shy" if thats what you call it.
He wasn't out until he got his own tank with sand, driftwood and no light.

I have one that is very shy as well. We call him "Mr. Ugly", the kids love him. He's about 10" and most people when they look in the tank don't even see him. He hides in a "cave decoration" upside down and attached to the inside. Sometimes during the day, he slips down and just lays under there. At night, he comes out and is quite active. I recommend you try and look for him/her with the tank lights off and very dimly lit lights in the room, and just check on him/her periodically.

Mine is probably the most active fish in the tank. I think he doesn't know he's a Pleco. I've had him for 3 years and he never hid. I thought when I brought him home and put him in the tank "you are a neat fish, too bad I'll never see you again". Didn't happen. One of his favorite things to do is swim in the air bubble wall at the back of the tank....up and down, up and down. Make sure you don't have any fish in the tank that nip him when he's out is about the only thing I can think of. If they always get bugged when they're out, they learn to stay put.
