oh his tankmates are,
1 ghost shrimp
1 mystery snail
the filter is meant for a ten gal but it works wonderfully in the five gal,the readings are,
amonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 10
ph 7.0
the temp is always around 75-78.
if you keep the water clean and well filtered I'd start leaning towards a possible internal infection..I don't see any external signs but that definately does not eliminated internal infections.
bettas as you know are labrynth and are capable of breathing air (gulping air) from the surface. bettas alos do wel in warm water..remember they come from shallow waters (rice paddies) and like warm water.
75 is a bit chilly for the bettas you might try bumping the temp to around 80 see if he livens up.
one of my angel tanks dipped to 75 and the angels became lethargic.
the 'rice paddies' are only shallow during dry season:
I'll have to get another heater for him,the only 25 watt i have is being used to fight ick,im going to go do a WC and get him to eat somthing.what kind of med should i use?
bump the temp up and see how he responds it should be pretty quick.
raise the temp slowly over the course of the day.
if he is still unresponsive I would start looking at broadspectrum antibiotics maracyn and or maracyn2 . hard to tell with infections if it's gram positive or a gram negative bacteria.
Looks like it could be swim bladder. Don't feed him anything for a full day, and do a 25% water change, and see if you get any results. Bettas, especially while young, are especially prone to those kinds of problems.
