i have a balloon molly who has completely lost his caudal fin.....one day it was slightly deteriorated & the next day gone!!! i did some research & found that it might be high ph. i don't have a test kit. i did a 1/3 water change & the next day 1/2 water change. should i put him out of his misery or can he beat this? his pectoral fins are starting to go now

i don't know what to do...all my other fish are fine

if you're suspecting that its a pH problem.. have you tested the pH of the water you're putting in the tank during water changes?

my guess is that its not very different from the water already in the tank, which basically means you're not helping much, except you're putting cleaner water of a bad pH in there.

yes, cleaner water is good, but if your fish is falling apart because of the pH, then pretty soon you wont have a fish and the clean water will be useless.

figure out what the pH is of the water in the tank, and of the water you're putting into the tank during water changes, and figure out what pH is best for that fish.

then figure out how to make them all the same.

oh, and buy a ammonia, nitrite, nitrate test kit.
you'll be glad you did.
