I have two gold fish-- a black moor and a orage and whit. They were in a 20 gal tank. I started with real ammonia issues in oct. By Thankigiving the moor was at deaths door. I put him in a sic tank time three times till xmas and got a new 55 gal Dec 26. Then moor has got mouth fungus, two rounds of ick , unlcers on fins and gills. All is fianally cleared up but has trouble swimming straight, getting to the sureface, drop like a bomb to the bottom while swimming, has ripped himself silly on rocks which are removed now but has more wounds from rubbing on the gravel. It has just recently gotten a large red bunp with lines going up and down on his top fin. Does eat well when he can get to the food. Have just put him back in 20 gal alone to try and get him better. Any suggestions--I have heard melifix, meracyn 2 and tetrcycline to him better. I am going to start with a master water kit, already use salt, Prime for water conditioning. Any and all help woud be greatly appreciated!!!
gemlady7788 a very worried mom

I'm sorry to hear about your fish! I am in no way an expert, but it sounds to me like he may suffer from an epidemic known as septicemia (and perhaps swim bladder issues, or even dropsy?).. If this is the case, immediate treatment with a broad spectrum antibiotic is crucial. Anti-bacterial food would also be a wise option. Otherwise, try to keep your water as clean as possible and your water parameters at pristine levels. Good luck with your little guy! Hopefully someone else here will be able to offer some more in-depth advice.

:welcome: to AC!

Do you have pictures? What are your water parameters? Hemorrhage septicemia is also my guess but I prefer to see photos before making more guesses.:)

I have him in a sic tank. He is eating well. All his wounds are healing well. Am now treating him with trycycline--on day three. There is a red bump on his top fin that is very mysterious and it just apperear 4 days ago but the meds don't seen to be affecting it. He was a live suvuneer from 2 1/2 yrs ago. He has a great personality and would love to keep him alive. He is less stressted in the empty tank but his buddy really misses him? Any ideas? Thanks for caring--worried mom

no need to use salt in the tank if the ich is cleared up. the prolonged use of it could be causing some skin irritation. do water changes to remove salt.

what is your regular water change schedule? how much/how often?

can you test both tanks for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate and tell us what the results are?

have had him on tetrycycline for 5 days. Wounds are healed and water change just done. He is better but had mysterious red bump on top fin. Posted pic today for help in identification. I think his swim bladder may be damaged but still not sure if have gotten to basis of real disease. If you see the pic any help would pe greatly apppreciated-

are you ignoring questions about water parameters for a reason? 3 people have asked for them. we wouldn't ask if they weren't important.

h2o

water is good--no ammonia, nitrate , nitite and ph is good. Doin water change every 2 days to keep bottom clean--quit adding the salt he is just hanging out ecept when eating but still says on the bottom of the tank--red bump still there

what about the 55g?
