Hi all,

Only had my albino corys a week, one seems fine. The other, well, doesn't.

Here's what I have:
2 week old tank
5 glowlite tetras
2 albino corys

Water: ammonia 0, nitrites 1.0, nitrates 30 (been doing partial water changes every other day til the tank is cycled properly)

The listless cory - has what appear to be red dots on one side. Doesn't move around anywhere near as much as the other cory. One eye seems to be almost completely white - which doesn't seem right either. Some faint white spotches on the fins.

I think it's sick. But I'm not sure (new to the whole fish thing).
Help?

sounds like a fungus

i dont know about the red spot thing (have you searched the catfish forums as well?) but the film coating the eye and the white spot could be a fungal growth. Do you have an incubation or smaller tank you can use to put him in while you treat him? If you not, you should ask around (or better yet, find some advice on here on meds for scalesss fish-didnt you say you had tetras?) alot of fungus med is deadly for scaleless fish and tetras....i would do a 25% water chanfge as well and bring a sample in to get it tested, certain higher levels of nitrates can bring on funguses and parasites...good luck, hopefully someone can recommend a good medication for your little cat!... i lost one of my original four to a fungus/fin rot, that had gotten too far along to cure. :sad
hope you get good results

not looking good

I think my cory might be toast.
The spots have gotten worse - doubled over the course of the day, and left eye is almost completely closed now. And breathing seems labored.

Since today is a holiday, I can't do anything until tomorrow - so I'll take it into the pet store I got it from and see what they say. I don't have a separate tank, so can't even separate it. I just hope it's not too infectious.

The other alternative is take it out of the tank tonight and euthanize. Sigh.

Any other ideas?
