SICK Discus!! Help!!

I've got an in tank ammonia monitor that never showed any rise from 0 and I did a couple tube tests but even still I may have missed it if there was a backup in the system. I'll go talk to the guy on the corner and see if I can get some dat cocaine ;)

Nitrates now at 8-10 ppm. Other discus really look great! Sick discus still in the corner and is dark about half the time. We'll see..

All the water changes in the world would not have helped me!!

Most of the time the city water here is soft, when I first added the discus it was around 15. However it has come to my attention that the city adds different things to the water depending on the time of the month/year.

The water I was using was super uber hard. A little discus buffer did the trick and all is well again! I think I'm going to start purchasing RO water for this tank =p

Glad all is back to normal and that you figured it ou!!!

Hello,

I just wanted to add my 2 :hi: cents. Discus are a shoaling fish and prefer to be kept in groups of 6 or more. Many times if you have 3 discus the 2 will become bonded and the third will get beat on until it turns black and dies.

Also has another note make sure that your temps are up at least at 85 for happy healthy Discus Fish.

What are you feeding them?

Discus do better at higher temps. 80 degrees seems very low. 86 degree should be the gosl you should maintain. I know some keep them as high as 89 degrees. I've kept Discus for years and temp is a constent 86 degrees.

Bah, this is falacy. Discus do just fine at 82 degrees, and I can show you many seasoned pro's that use this temperature. 86 is nice for juvies if your trying to grow them quick but no need for that temp for adults. 80 is a tad low though IMO.
