I've got a problem here. Dwarf Gourami, one of our original fish we put in the new 20 gallon tank 5 months ago, has got some problems now. So I'm sure some of this is related to him being a cycling fish, albeit we did proper fishless cycling before he got in there. The cories were also original fish, and they are still healthy.
Anyway, he's been sick several times, but I think this might be the end. A few months ago, he started getting a facial bump on one side of his face between mouth and gill, but continues to act healthy. Now he's got a hole in his ventral fin. It started as just a dot, but then you could see it on both sides, and now it's a hole. This has happened slowly over the last 2-3 weeks. The only other sign is he's been a little more sluggish than usual, but still eats and swims around.
I have taken very good care of my tank, even though I'm a newbie at this, so I know it's not a dirty tank problem. All other fish are fine. There's no way it was a fin nip either.
My question: should I try to save him, or should I let him go, since he seems to be prone to disease? Quarantine? Salt? Meds? (my girlfriend wants me to try and save him, I'm ready to let nature take it's course.)
20 gallon, live and fake plants, hiding places
25% water change religiously every 2 weeks
PH: 6.8
Nitrites: 0 (so the UGF is working)
Ammonia: 0
besides him - 3 cories, 6 flame tetras, 1 black molly, 1 SAE, 1 freshwater dwarf puffer.
Thanks
Chris
