Hey all,

I got home from schoool today to find one of my 1.5 inch (ish) gold dust molly "Fry" with a perfectly formed, somewhat opaque "bubble" over one of her eyes. It appears to be some sort of film. None of the other fish have it, the water parems are fine, and other then the weird eye bubble the female molly appears healthy, eating and swimming normally. If anyone has any idea what this is, if it is curable or if its contagious ect

thanks

Popeye/Cloudy eye.
Possibly caused by poor water conditions.
Water change is key.
There may be meds, not sure if its contagious but the fish can lose it's eye if not treated.

Only cause I've heard of is water quality. I read that Ampicilex (Aquatronics) can help cure it but you need to make sure you keep up on water changes, it is the main key to curing this. Good luck!

Okay,

I tested the water last night and the readings were ; ammonia 0, nitrite 0, and nitrAte 40-80 (the highest its ever been!). I immedietly did a 30% water change and gravel vac. I tested the water again and the nitrAtes were down to 20-40, which i kno is still a little high. I turned off the aeration thing and lowered the temp to 77 F. Today after school i tested again and the results were ; ammmonia 0, nirite 0, and nitrAte 20-40. All the other fish are healthy/active. The female molly still has the bubble around her eye, and is otherwise acting/looking normal. Will this go away with no aeration , low temp (popeye???) and frequent water changes or is there a medication. I would rathe rnot treat th etank if its possible.

thanks

The mollies eye is still the same; i read that penicillin or amoxicillin would cure "popeye" but I am not sure how i would aquire it unless its an ingredient in another medication. The other fish are fine and the molly is still swimming, looking, eating normally (besides the freaky eye). Should i be really concerned, will popeye result in death?

I have a 5 g that currently contains two platy fry; i could move them tot he main tank and then move the molly to the 5 to treat it.
