I am not getting any help in the Coldwater so i thought I would ask here.

I have a gold fish that I was treating for ich with salt and now he has RED specks all over him along with the white specks and he is just floating around the bottom and occationally thrashing against the glass. I added lots of aeration and he should be ok for O2 but he is lethargic and red speckled on the fins and belly and ALL OVER!! ARG!! I AM FREAKING OUT!!!! HELP!!
PS he is eating with great relish though....

Are the white spots cottony? Did you raise your temp. to over 80 degrees for the treatment? If you didnt try again with the higher temp. and if you cant raise the temp. that high because it is a gold fish I would make a trip to the lfs and get a medicine that is just meant to treat ich. I am not sure what the red spots could be from but since he is thrashing at the glass and itching it still sounds like he has ich.

Which store bought treatment and how are you applying it? Turns out a lot of the over the counter stuff gives really poor advice on length of treatment that ignores the life cycle of Ich. Especially considering that this is presumably a cooler water tank, the Ich just doesn't get to the vulnerable stage very quickly. To understand ich beter, check out the article in the articles forum by Daveedka. Great article and maybe it can generate some ideas for you.

Oh, almost forgot, my guess on the red dots is maybe some secondary infection? Are you treating for anything else currently? Also, take a good hard close look. Sometimes an inspection can turn up new evidence, like anchor worms or something. Good luck.

no i don;t see any worms anywhere....hmmm I guess secondary infections are quite possible. well i will keep treating and see what happens. he is a tough old fish so hopefully he will be ok. Thanks for the help Harlock!
