I think I would go with the ten days. The reason I advise this is that when my Brochis developed septicemia I did a lot of research; read many articles regarding a variety of bacterial infections and antibiotic treatment protocol, and also researched through threads and posts here on AC regarding the treatment of bacterial infection.
I treated my Brochis for ten days and it caused no harm and he recovered from his bacterial infection. I think I would do it in the case of your Gourami just to be safe.
I would watch carefully for any signs that he may have a parasitic infection. Once my Brochis got over the bacterial infection, he came down with Ich which I treated and cured.
Actually, the Ich most likely preceeded the bacterial infection. I have read that often a bacterial infection can result when the immune system is weakened by a parasitic infection.
My Brochis apparently had the Ich protozoans in his nostrils, mouth, nose, and gills at the life cycle stage of the Ich protozoan when you don't see the visible signs.
Hopefully this isn't the case with your fish, but if anything develops then you can treat that as well.
I'm glad he seems to be feeling much better now, and I hope he will continue to improve. You're doing a great job!
