Hello,
MY newly added female guppy has very long excrement hanging out of her that is quite "stringy," and she seems kind of out of it and not very active at all. The only other fish in the tank are two more guppies (male and female), so I really don't think it is an aggression issue. On top of it all, the male does not show the slighest interest in her... maybe because he knows she is sick or something? Anyway, any help at all would be awesome!
Cheers,
~Matt

Raise the temp to the tank if you can, to about 78-82 degrees and feed garlic. Do not add salt to the tank, that is bad mojo.

more info

The fish is sitting behind the power filter output at the top of the tank, barely moving. It also looks bloated and breathing is somewhat rapid. I do have Maracide here, but am not sure I want to medicate just yet... Also, can I feed dried garlic, or should I use fresh minced garlic?
Thanks,
~Matt

Garlic will take care of most internal parasites. I would crush some fresh garlic and toss the left overs of it in the fridge. Feed it to her twice a day for about 10 days. See how she acts then. But remember to crush it and mince it all up.
But to let you know, buying guppies is like a crap shoot, sometimes you get some good ones and sometimes you get a bad one.

Tricksterpup is right...Guppys have been so aggressively bred that it is not uncommon to see stomach probs, mainly digestive issues...You probably got one of those..

Thats true....too inbred....they were a lot hardier in the 70's when I was breeding them...

nevermind...

She died while I was at class... the water specs are fine, everything is in order. I think maybe it was just a sick fish to begin with. Yeah, compared to the guppies I saw in a hotel's extensive man-made ponds and streams in Mexico, ours have some issues here in MN, at least.
Thanks for the help ya'll,
~Matt
