Sick of green Eheim tubes - make them black?

I love my Eheims but those green tubes just don't sit well with me. Not the flexible stuff that leads from the filter, but the rigid intakes and outflows. Is there any easy, inexpensive way to replace them with black?

Krylon Fusion spraypaint ;)

What size tubing? Would repalcement parts for Magnums or another filter manufacturer work?

You have not mentioned how big a "pain in the a...s" the 9mm tubes are to deal with.

I have very, very limited experience with an Eheim but but 3/8"x1/2" reducers and 1/2" clear tubing which I found at Lowe's were wonderful things.

If I use tubes from another manufacturer, how does the idea of connecting them to the Eheim tubes work?

In other words, is it better to go down in diameter or up? Will using an inlet tube that is larger cause the motor to have to work harder?

In my previous post I did not want to get into details as well as additional options in order to not generate confusion but did not state that my comments were based on discharge.

Your question is very, very legitimate.

Based upon my limited experience with an Eheim cannister filter these filters are high discharge against a low head but they do not function very well when pumping against a high head.

It is better to go up in diameter*.

I indicated the 3/8"x1/2" reducer because the 9mm tube can be inserted onto the 3/8" barbs and the 1/2" tubing can be inserted onto the the 1/2" barbs.

*This is not entirely true but when going from 3/8" to 1/2" it is.

The answer to this question would require many paragraphs but if you have less than approximately 10' of tubing a larger diameter tube with a reducer will yield no joy.

If you need more than 10' of intake tubing install 3' of 9mm tubing on the intake, then a 1/2"x3/8" reducer and then 1/2" tubing to the tank.

The Eheim installation kits are colored gray. They look alot better, and work better.

Use them on all my tanks w/eheims ... have since the start and havent had any issues. Still do use the green tubing but its behind the tanks/stands so you dont see it.
