One of my female platys has some white spots on her. I’ve pulled her out of the breeding tank and put her in my 1.5-gallon quarantine tank. She’s swimming around like normal and looks pissed at me for having moved her. I don’t see any spots on any of the other fish in the breeding tank. I think she gave birth about a week ago, so she shouldn’t be pregnant… this week. Is this ick? Should I just get some ick medicine or is there a better way to cure her (if this is ick)?

Also, I thought there was a disease and sickness forum on this board. Am I thinking of another forum or was there one here?

sounds like ich to me. some people say thta if one has it you might as well treat all your fish just in case, but having this one in QT shouldn't hurt. One treatment I've read a lot about is to raise the water temp to about 82 degrees F and add some salt to the water (amounts vary, so someone else may have to fill that one in). also there are some ich medications on the market you could try as well.

If I add salt, will she be able to go back in the breeding tank that has no salt added? :dive2:

well from what I understand you should leave her in the QT for about 2 weeks with the temp raised and adding at least a teaspoon on salt per gallon with your water changes. once that 2 weeks is up and you don't see the spots anymore she can go back in the other tank.

someone correct me if I have something wrong on this.

Ok, I went out and got “Aquarium Products QuICK Cure”. I put the recommended amount in with her. She didn’t like it when her water turned blue. I also set the temperature to 80. I’ll let you know how she’s doing in a couple of days.
